Elgin Neighborhoods
A neighborhood is a geographically localized community located within a larger city. It takes many neighborhoods to make up a city the size of Elgin and each of them has it’s own characteristics that make it unique. Finding standardized information about neighborhoods is almost impossible and some areas may have multiple names. Therefor we have opted to follow the neighborhoods that are used in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) that real estate agents use.
The Multiple Listing Service attempts to use the legal neighborhood names, many times they are legal subdivisions, and therefor is one of the more accurate information sources. Next we have included information from local residents to help keep the information as accurate as possible. Feel free to email us if you feel something is missing or inaccurate at neighborhoods(at)previewelgin(dot)com.
We have broken up Elgin’s Neighborhoods into three categories, Single Family, Townhomes, and Condos. While many times a condo association might rest within a geographic boundaries of a larger neighborhood the residents of the association are more closely tied to those within the condo complex then those of the surrounding area. For this reason we have opted to take notice and break down neighborhoods as much as possible.
Elgin’s Single Family Neighborhoods
A single-family or detached home is a free-standing residential building. Single-family homes are built on lots larger than the structure itself therefor you have a yard.

Elgin’s Townhome (Townhouse) Neighborhoods
Townhome is the Midwest’s word for a Townhouse. These are just a modern version of Row Homes. Townhomes typically are a row of identical or mirror-image houses with shared side walls. In Elgin most of the time townhomes will have an association to take care of exterior maintenance.
